The obvious answer is protein. A man who has been doing the majority of his adult life of consuming protein will gain as much as 6-12 pounds of fat over the next couple years. However, the more important question is a question that goes from weight gain (which is why I asked my readers to weigh in), up and into fat loss.
What about carbohydrate?
If a person has been eating a high carbohydrate, high fat and moderate protein diet, the most important meal of the day will be carbohydrate. When you lose muscle, the body burns fat for energy. In order to increase muscle mass and lose fat, the body needs carbohydrate.
A man who eats a moderate carb diet, however, will not be losing fat. With a few notable exceptions, the man who eats high fat and high protein will have increased body fat.
In fact, if you’re trying to lose body fat, low fat diets tend not to cause a body fat gain over time at all, unless something else goes wrong with your insulin secretion.
Bottom Line: If you are going to follow an extreme diet that allows you to lose a considerable amount of body fat and maintain total body volume, that diet should be based on high protein, low carbohydrate foods. A high fat, large carb diet will not be a good fit.
Can you lose weight through the use of the Atkins protocol?
Short answer: No. The Atkins diet is a complete diet-plus lifestyle, and that lifestyle includes a diet of high or relatively high total fat, low carbohydrate, high proteins, low carbohydrate diets. The most important meal of the day would be low fat or high protein.
Long answer: There is no scientific evidence that the Atkins diet can aid in weight loss. Although it does reduce some calories in the diet, low fat diets tend to fail to keep fat the same fat.
What happens if you use the Atkins diet?
It’s common for overweight people who eat a diet of high fat, high protein foods such as beef, fish or poultry and low fat or moderate protein foods such as eggs, milk, yogurt, yoghurt etc. to gain a significant amount of body weight.
However, a lot of research shows that the Atkins diet is not likely to result in weight loss at all.
The best example is Atkins diet co-founder and author Mark Sisson. When Mark Sisson was a fat kid, he lost 20lbs of body fat in only
