What is the best time to plant saffron bulbs? – Saffron In Vermont

August 25, 2020

How much?

The best time to plant saffron is in spring, when the flower buds are fully developed. But if you are looking for a way to save some money, you can plant them in autumn. In that season, the yellow flowers can be dug out of the ground and repotted with the new bloom at your own discretion. The new bulbs also tend to last longer.

What else should you know about saffron?

Saffron is the oldest cultivated flower and the most important spice to ancient Egyptians, who used it to enhance the flavor and strength of their food. In recent centuries, however, people have been using saffron to enhance the taste of almost everything, including wine, soap, cosmetics and even shampoo.

While it’s a fine all-purpose spice, saffron has little value in its natural form and many people prefer its dried variety to the fresh variety. Most countries in the world prohibit the use of saffron in food products. As you can see, the issue can get quite complex! Please consult your local customs so you can satisfy your taste buds and avoid potential trouble.

If you don’t have strong feelings about saffron, perhaps you are thinking to give it an opportunity. One advantage of saffron, however, is that as long as you are within the recommended planting period, it can continue to grow from seed for up to two generations after planting.

A woman and a woman’s car were involved in a wreck late Thursday night, just before 10 p.m. in the 5300 block of East Montrose Avenue, police said.

The woman was driving west on Montrose about 10:30 p.m. when she lost control of her 1999 Honda Accord, and slid into oncoming traffic, striking both of her vehicles, police spokeswoman Officer Jen Psaki said.

Both women, who were not injured, were taken to Parkland Hospital, while the vehicle was towed.
