Following a separate arrest later that day involving an investigation into whether his home was being used as a “base for drug dealing”, he was convicted of burglary and possession of a weapon.
He was remanded in custody and handed five years’ imprisonment.
Mr Singh said he was worried about what might happen to his wife and children.
On Thursday morning, Mr Singh’s sister Nupur told BBC News: “I spoke with him yesterday and he was OK, a little groggy.
“I feel sorry for him but he is a real honest sort of person. He will go to jail for quite some time but there is going to be justice for us and we are very happy about it.
“I will miss him and the family. My brother really loves his life, that’s all I can say.”
Mr Singh’s solicitor Simon Williams said: “I don’t believe he should be found guilty of anything.
“He was just caught in a tragic time and very unfortunate circumstances in his life.
“There are a couple of things that I would like to discuss with the media.”
