Yes and no. Viola is definitely easier to learn when it is playing your own solo. It’s easier to control and more advanced to do it from the other instruments. Violin solo is a much simpler skill to learn in comparison. You just have one instrument to learn. But viola solo is a pretty difficult skill to achieve. It requires lots of discipline, patience and practice. If you are looking for a beginner instrument, viola can be a great choice. There’s no substitute for experience and time, but it can be done.

How many notes can i learn per day?

Practicing 3 or 4 times a week on a regular basis is perfect enough for most pianists and their families. For those who need 5 or 6 hours per day, learning 5 or 6 times a week is another good idea. It is not necessary to stop practicing after finishing the first exercise and move on to a completely different exercise. I personally only take a break if there are 3 or 4 exercises left, so you know the exercise and the time for next one. Then I can practice more. If you feel you need to go back to a particular exercise for a little while and still need to keep the same speed, there are other exercises you can do with those two exercises in the meantime.

Do i need a special key to have good results?

A lot of people think that learning to play the violin is not as hard as a keyboard instrument like piano or a harpsichord. The most important thing is that you play well enough in the first position, but it doesn’t matter whether the keys fit you, at least not if you play better if you get the hands to practice as many keys as you need to. So the key is of little importance. I usually go with something close to standard key sizes because it’s very hard to get the hands to do that even with a standard size finger.
