My opinion on a daily basis is that you get so many opportunities to use your instruments. But I would say one hour a day for a beginner is a good rule of thumb. This means that if you are playing a concerto and you learn all of the movements on a daily basis your ability to perform will greatly increase. If you like to practice in solo-mode for a short time then you need only practice for a few minutes at a time once or twice a day. If you want a great sound you need to play a lot more than that.
What should I wear when I play?
A lot of what you wear on stage and in front of the audience can greatly enhance your stage presence and performance skills. That is probably why so many performers and singers choose to wear an apron or skirt, and sometimes even a bow or bow head-dress. But a regular black, grey or olive-coloured dress is also useful when practicing in silence. The same goes for hats: for an extra layer of protection, you might consider a hat that’s a little darker or an additional hat. And remember, this is not your best look in front of the audience.
