Once your violin has been properly restored from its original state, you will be able to determine the value of your instrument. While there are certainly many factors that can impact how much money you will be able to get for your violin, several things will be considered as you make the final decision about what instrument to buy this summer. For example, the value of the wood of your instrument should have a direct correlation to the condition of its strings, especially the strings worn or weakened.
There may also be a relationship between what the condition of your piece of jewelry will be and the value of the instrument. If a piece of jewelry is heavily worn, broken or has a poor shine, it can increase the value of your particular violin.
Lastly, what color of wood your violin is made out of should be taken into consideration as well. If the wood used in your instrument is primarily black, it’s likely that the price you will be able to get for it will be higher. The color of a wood’s grain could also create some value. Black strings have a more intense color than white or light gold, so if its black, its likely to sell for more than light gold strings that have a similar color. Other than the above factors, if a piece of wood is made of very light or medium brown, its potential for value is not as great.
Will my violin cost more or less than other pieces sold in stores?
There are probably some pieces of instrument that are sold in our stores that are sold out of stock. If that is the case, I would recommend that you check to see if the vendor has a good relationship with us. Most vendors that use us as a source sell good pieces of instrument at a discount. They are not guaranteed to sell out of whatever stock they put in on any given day. Even worse than not buying an instrument, is buying less of the very same piece in store. If you have purchased a piece that is marked down from the list price, and you try to purchase it anyway, it could be a sign of trouble. Check to see if the vendor is willing to do business with you. You may be able to sell your item at a discount back to the store or buy it from the store again for an even more favorable price.
