How much does a ventriloquist dummy cost? – How Does A Ventriloquist Throw His Voice

August 18, 2020

I do not get into the particulars, but it is fairly obvious how much it costs to create one, and I know that some cost far more than others. It is true that I do not have a direct connection to ventriloquists other than having bought a few dummy heads over the years from a company based in the United Kingdom.

I also have no direct connection to the manufacturer or anyone for that matter, so to speak. It was not until the company who supplies ventriloquists to me (I will call them “V. S.”) asked if I could purchase a dummy head and a box made and packaged in their design, that I realized that there was a big difference between the costs of these items versus the ones I had. This is because the price for two people (or two sets) of one or both dummy heads is different depending on what manufacturer and how they are put together.

When you use a standard ventriloquist dummy, the dummy heads are made up of a base, a handle which rests on a peg, two holes for the dummy’s head and two legs for the dummy’s legs. These head sections are then glued together so that they all slide together, and then the dummy’s body is built, usually with some sort of backing material.

On the other hand, the manufacturer of the ventriloquist’s dummy can customize the dummy’s body as necessary. For example…

If the manufacturer decides to make the body out of a different type of material than the base, they may also add a lid or shroud to separate the dummy into parts. They can also add on some new parts that might not exist in the current version of the head, but could by using some type of molding.

Depending on what the manufacturer chooses, they may also create different versions of the body, or even create different versions of the dummy’s body, which have different head sections. The cost of a dummy head can range from about $125 to $250, and the cost of an actual ventriloquist’s dummy can range from as low as $10 to as high as $50.

I should note that I have no connection at all to an actual ventriloquist other than having a couple dummy heads and a box. In other words, I do not have a direct connection to someone at my school, company, or anyone else related to the manufacture of any of these products. As for what I would say if I did not know
