How do beginners learn ventriloquism? – How To Sing Ventriloquist

August 21, 2020

There is a long history of ventriloquism in schools, from early in the 19th century – with some famous instructors going back even further.

The basic idea is to use an exaggerated “wobble” of the arm, by pulling your arm away from the body. The basic hand position to perform this, is holding a pencil or other object at arm length, and pulling your arm up towards your face.

The next steps are more complicated, but are based on simple hand positions, and do not rely on the “wobble” being too exaggerated.

Step 1 : Beginners usually hold their pencil firmly, then begin to slowly twist their body in to a “fist” shape.

Step 2 : This is usually the easiest and often most challenging step.

Step 3 : Slowly and confidently release your “fist” (gently!) from the arm you are holding, back across the face you are facing. Now you are in a seated position.

Step 4 : Then pull the arm back slowly, and repeat in a “squeeze” motion.

In both cases, your elbow should be bent to shoulder level.

Why should I learn this?

Learning a ventriloquist demonstration is both fun and useful: it will enable beginners to practice ventriloquism with a confidence that will then open the door to learning any number of other exciting skills like:

Improvisational music playing by putting together musical notes using your body as an improvised keyboard

Swinging

The many varieties of “doo-wop”

Crowding

Casting props for actors, theatre pieces, and dramatic plays

What can I expect to learn in a ventriloquist demonstration?

There are many reasons to learn ventriloquism.

This is the “why” – it might take you a while to get your feet wet in the arts of ventriloquism, but the rewards will be huge.

A ventriloquist demonstration will teach you:

– How to build up an exaggerated “wobble” of the arm.

– How to “pull” the shoulder of the person around you while at the same time maintaining a natural “dum
