The latest poll on the presidential election from Quinnipiac, the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, finds Democrat Hillary Clinton with a ten point lead over Republican Donald Trump. Clinton has also captured a double digit lead at the national level, but this is just the results for the state of Michigan.
Quinnipiac’s president Karen Tumulty says that the trend in polling shows that Trump continues to be seen favorably, but not by a majority.
“His unfavorable rating is the seventh largest of the past thirty-five years. His unfavorability rating is the sixth largest.”
Trump is underwater on honesty, temperament, and character as measures of his character. On each of these, he is below where Mitt Romney, John McCain, and George W. Bush were in the same years. Trump’s unfavorable rating is more than double the unfavorable ratings of these other Republicans. He leads only on temperament and honesty.
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,511 likely voters between October 26-30, and the polling margin of error is plus or minus 4 points.
The latest controversy around the use of “diverse” students as substitutes in STEM education is a little more serious. The debate is over the inclusion of “diverse” science and engineering students in their courses. The Washington Post reports that there was a plan to use “diverse” substitute teachers to replace students who are not “proportional” to the actual population in their departments:
U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will discuss a new “diverse and inclusive engineering and design” plan at Michigan’s largest college, and her department plans to spend $15 million to replace the roughly 1,400 students who are not as racially and ethnicly diverse as the class of 2021, according to two school officials.
