That’s the question that is frequently asked when I post the most popular beginner lessons on this site. The truth is that you need to have a good number of songs, different types of music you can play and a solid grasp of basic guitar technique to really make good progress. Here’s an example of the steps I take before beginning: Play the first two songs on guitar in my free lessons. Learn how to play minor scale on the guitar and all the chords on the guitar. I also teach the technique of strumming or playing chords up and down the neck of the guitar. Learn how to play over the chords and finger the basic chords you need for a solo using the chords from the book.
Next, we learn to use both the notes and chords you learned in those sessions and play them in the manner that I teach them.
Finally, I show you how to make an improvisation with the chords you played and how you can use them to create a song. I also demonstrate how to make your own solo songs using these chord exercises.
After completing this step-by-step guide you will be able to play any song that I teach you and have the ability to create beautiful solos with your soloed songs. If you are new to guitar, you will be able to play the songs I cover in the course and have the ability to create beautiful and interesting soloist guitar performances and you will have all the ingredients to take your guitar playing to the next level.
Why am I using lessons like this? Because I love helping people achieve their dreams of playing music. While I do not guarantee that I’ll be able to help you, the knowledge I give will help you create exciting and fun music without getting too frustrated. My goal always has been to help you reach your potential, to get you to take your guitar to the next level.
What If It’s Too Late?
Once you’ve completed the course and have the ability to play your own songs you should continue the course with another beginner guitar course. The difference between course 2 and course 1 is that after the first week of the lesson you will get to pick the other topics for the following semester.
I always say that learning guitar is like a journey. You never know what you are going to encounter down the road.
