It depends on how much time each player spends working on their technique, how big the projects are and how dedicated they have been. As long as the player is really focused and their guitar skills are not stagnant over time, the time should not be any different. They can also focus on learning new techniques as well. The best way to learn new skills is to start small and work your way up. Start small with a very simplistic approach before expanding to a more complex solo, or work towards building up your basic skills on simple scales.

In the end, one can learn enough on their own to become very good at most guitar skills. Some advanced techniques have many variations and it would be quite difficult to master them all over the time taken to become really good at them. One way to keep improving is also to keep playing the same songs and playing your favorite songs.

If you are very busy with your life while teaching this guitar technique or if you have children to keep you company, try not to play too many shows in general. It will be a long road to mastery. However, I will say that if you are in great demand, I would recommend at least playing a few shows on your own. It gives you the opportunity to learn as much as you can in a smaller time.

How often are you going to teach?

I do one two-week long guitar/piano-only workshop each year in the summer. Usually it starts from January and ends near the end of October. You can schedule it at anything you think is going to be an easy or challenging lesson.

Can you tell us about the kind of students you have taught and what kind of feedback you get?

I would say that they are generally very good learners and they know their skills and what they excel at. They usually do not take very long. Most of the teachers also listen and listen very closely and they want to be sure that my student is comfortable, so they are very attentive and they ask me a few questions before I begin teaching. Sometimes they are even quite upset if I get a wrong answer after hearing it once. I think at least half of them are very experienced guitarists if I am really honest with myself. I usually recommend that new students do not practice without a teacher’s approval and I also encourage them to go
